PhD in Urban Hydro Power - Architecture Department Advertising Sustainable Built Environment DTA Studentships - September 2009 Posted: 20/05/2009

The Department of Architecture at the University of Sheffield is currently advertising DTA studentships in the Sustainable Built Environment to start in September 2009. One potential project is Urban River Hydro Power which will be integrated with the low head hydro power research in the Ursula project. Low head hydro power is becoming increasingly popular but there are many unresolved issues and questions about the environmental and social impacts of the schemes. This is an exciting project that will focus on the performance and impacts of hydro power in the urban environment. The project will be supervised by Professor Steve Sharples and Professor Jian Kang.

This EPSRC Studentship covers home/EU tuition fees and an initial stipend of £13,290 (tax free) per annum. EU nationals are eligible for this stipend only if they have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of three years.  Non UK/EU nationals are not eligible for this award. Applicants must have a first or upper second class honours degree in the physical sciences or engineering.

To apply please send a CV and covering letter to Professor Steve Sharples: The deadline for applications is the 12th June 2009
